FREE CELEBRATION
Join us for the first annual “Young, Gifted and Black- A Black History Month Celebration”. This exciting evening of live entertainment includes performances of songs, monologues and scenes directed, produced and performed by over 30 Black Texas State artists representing the Department of Theatre and Dance. The students are dedicating the show to Miss Shirley Harris, the first Black student to graduate from Texas State University in 1967. Miss Harris received her bachelor's degree in education from Southwest Texas State and went on to teach at elementary schools for 40 years in San Antonio. As part of the evening a scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student pursing a career as a teacher.
